Ambassador Khan expressed her condolence to the Government of Belgium and her people on behalf of the Fijian Government. The Ambassador underscored the resilience of the citizens of Brussels at this time grave adversity and that Fiji can relate to the loss of lives especially in the aftermath of severe tropical cyclone Winston.

On Monday 23rd March, 2016 terrorist attacks took at the Brussels Airport and at Maalbeek Metro Station and have claimed 30 lives and over 200 wounded, some critically. This was the second such attack to have taken within the span of four months in Western Europe.

Fiji established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Belgium in the 1970’s and has had a mission which also doubles up as an Embassy European Union since 1973. Fiji has maintained a close relation with the Kingdom of Belgium.
