Cokanauto’s lawyer Simione Valenitabua, appearing before Magistrate Charles Ratakele:

  • verbally applied for bail before , but was asked to file a written application by tomorrow.
  • raised concerns about media reports bring prejudicial against his client, but was told by the court to focus on the evidence coming before the court.
  • told the court Cokanauto will not interfere with the state witnesses, and he is suffering from a medical condition.

State lawyer Meli Vosawale objected to bail, saying police investigations are continuing into other allegations, and the accused may interfere with state witnesses.  Vosawale asked that Cokanauto be remanded in custody and police be given 7 days to complete the full investigation.

Cokanauto allegedly indecently assaulted the victim between the 1st of January 2006 to the 31st of July 2006.  The case was adjourned to 2.30pm this Friday.
