Police have retrieved the truck and the container of Sodium Cyanide from the Wainibuka River.  The truck has been escorted to Vatukoula.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Waicevu confirmed to Newswire that Mineral Resources officers have inspected the scene and tested the water, declaring it safe for use.

Wainibuka River and nearby creeks are now safe to use.

Mineral Resources Department Director Apete Soro yesterday told Newswire that reports from his team suggested there had been no chemical spill.

The truck had veered off the road and into the Wainibuka River, along Kings Road on Tuesday.  It was carrying Sodium Cyanide for use at the Vatukaola Gold Mine.  The driver is still admitted to hospital, and police say is recovering well.
