A 22-year-old man is in police custody at the Labasa Police Station after he allegedly attempted to rape a 15-year-old  girl in Labasa on Sunday afternoon.

Police Spokesperson, Inspector Josaia Weicavu told Newswire that police never condones such actions.

Police will never condone this crimes and perpetrators on sexual offences. Especially when committed on the vulnerable and minors in our communities. We will come down hard on these perpetrators. The problem is that this is happening inside the homes, which is supposed to be the safe ground for the victim and family.

The incident occurred whilst the victim was having her bath at home. Police confirmed that the 22-year-old man is related to the victim. The matter was reported to police and the suspect has been arrested pending further investigations.

In a separate incident, three men that allegedly raped a  32-year-old woman in Sigatoka over the weekend remain in police custody at the Sigatoka Police Station.

Police Spokesperson, Inspector Josaia Weicavu said that the three men were at a drinking party with the victim when the incident happened.

We are advising members of the public to be cautious when attending functions where alcohol is being consumed. Investigations are continuing and the three men are in police custody.
