People currently seeking shelter at evacuation centres are advised to return to their homes due to the passing of TC Zena over the Fiji group.

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) Director Akapusi Tuifagalele, at a press conference this afternoon,said 15,169 people are currently taking shelter in 329 evacuation centers around Fiji. The Western Division with the highest recorded number of 200 evacuation centres.

  • Western Division: 200 evacuation centres – 11,294 evacuees
  • Central Division: 18 evacuation centres – 920 evacuees
  • Nothern Division: 62 evacuation centers – 1841 evacuees
  • Eastern Division: 49 evacuation center – 1,113 evacuees

As of this morning, the total number of evacuation center were three hundred and twenty-nine with a total number of one thousand one hundred and sixty-eight.

Mr. Tuifagalele said people are advised that┬áthe restriction of movement has been lifted as of eight o’clock this morning.

The cyclone past this Fiji last night, the reason why we chose to lift the restriction of this morning was because we are concerned of the public’s safety, we wanted TC Zena to be all cleared from the weather office.

Wenow have two death toll  that is of the 70-year-old man and the 19-year-old girl.

Mr. Tuifagalele said that Fiji is back to the emergency operation mode.

We now will be switching back to the emergency operation mode.

Tuifagalele also stressed out that school will start tomorrow.

I don’t have the exact figure of how many schools are being used as evacuation centers at the moment, however, schools will commence tomorrow.
