Ethan Kai was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court today for smuggling heroin into the country.

Kai was found guilty of one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs by the court last week. He smuggled heroin which was packed into smaller packets and stuffed inside the tyres of quad bikes last December

The drugs were confiscated at the Lautoka Wharf by Customs and Police officers.

The court heard the property developer was the sole breadwinner of his young family that included a 15-year-old son and a 13-month-old daughter.

Kai also supported his ailing mother in Australia.

He will be eligible for parole after serving 14 years of the sentence.
