Ten people have been booked for drunk driving over the past two days and four will remain in police custody till next week.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Tudravu confirmed this to Newswire today:

There have been six people taken in Thursday night and another four on Friday night.  Six will be appearing in court today and the other four will be taken to court next week.

ACP Tudravu said the public needed to take heed of warnings issued to ensure road safety.

We have issued warnings in regards to the long weekend given from the Director Traffic. This shows a lot of irresponsibility especially those who try to play up despite warnings. Drunk driving can to lead to other serious accidents and even fatal accidents.

So far, three people have been arrested in the Southern division, one in the Eastern Division, one from the Northern Division and five from the Western Division.

Police have said in a statement earlier this week that a no drop policy was in place and people who were arrested would remain in police custody over the weekend.
