Fiji National Sports Commission Chairman, Mr Peter Mazey at the conference on Saturday.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou while addressing the Fiji National Sports Commission’s National Sporting Organisation Conference in Suva today.

“The main focus of this Conference is about planning and I encourage you to take this message on board,” he said.

“We need to plan much better – our athletes deserve it and the Fijian public demands it.”

Minister Tuitubou stated that although funding had increased for certain sports, results remained stagnant.

“Results in some sports, despite increased funding, have not improved. As part of the planning process, you need to assess what is going right and what needs to be changed,” the Minister said.

Minister Tuitubou also revealed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will soon be reviewing the national sports policy that will form the basis of legislation and urged participants to share their opinions whilst at the conference.
