Pacific sprint king, Banuve Tabakaucoro and Rugby 7s player, Jerry Tuwai lead a star studded line up of stand out sports personalities in the 2016 Fiji Sports Awards to be held on February 26th at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Tabakaucoro won gold at the 2015 Pacific Games in the 100 meters and in the 200 meters where he created a new record. Tuwai who won the award for being the Stand Out Player at the Las Vegas 7s final when Fiji beat New Zealand brings with him the Rugby 7s teams title of HSBC Sevens World Series champions last year.

Sports Women, Milika Tuivanuavou from athletics, Valerie Nainima from basketball, Cheyenne Rova from swimming and 2014 Sports Woman of the Year Apolonia Vaivai from weightlifting are the front runners for the Sportswoman of the year category.

Milika with national records in long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, pentathlon, 60 meters, and 60-meter hurdles, triple jump and shot put, the USA based coach is a clear favourite.

Iosefo Verevou from soccer, Manueli Tulo for weightlifting, Adrian Smith for hockey and Waisale Suka for volleyball are some of the notable nominations for the Sportsman of the year category.

The nominations for the team of the year includes Vodafone Fiji 7s team, Pacific Games women’s 4x100m relay team, Pacific Games Fiji Women’s Basketball team, the Fiji U20 Football team, the Fiji Bati and Team Fiji Karate team for the Pacific Games.

Josefa Vueti, David Qiolevu, Bola Tafou and Kamal Swamy have been nominated in the coach of the year category.
