The Fiji Football Association last week launched the 2016 National Football League with a new name.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar said Vodafone Fiji has taken over the sponsorship from CJ Patel Group and will be the sole sponsor of Fiji Football.
Kumar also praised Vodafone Fiji for taking the additional burden of the sponsorship so that the planned activities of Fiji FA were not affected in any way.
This is a critical year for Fiji FA as we play in the first ever Olympic Games.
We would most sincerely thank Vodafone for taking over CJ Patel’s part of the sponsorship so that Fiji FA’s activities were not affected in any way.
Vodafone Fiji also confirmed that a number of business houses have shown interest in taking over the sponsorship of Fiji FA properties in partnership with Vodafone but until such time this is confirmed, Vodafone will be the sole sponsors of Fiji FA.
Kumar also thanked CJ Patel for their contribution to the development of the sport over a number of years and wished them well.
Confirming this, Vodafone Fiji chief marketing officer Rajnesh Prasad said the decision by CJ Patel to withdraw is purely business based and they respect the decision which is taken in the best interest of their business.
We would like to thank and acknowledge the CJ Patel Group for supporting development of football in the country for a number of years. CJP has been sponsoring the National Football League for the last seven years whilst their subsidiary Inkk Mobile has been sponsoring the Battle of Giants Tournament for the same number of years.
Additionally, in consortium with Vodafone, it had taken the sponsorship of all other football properties for the past two years.” Vodafone Fiji has confirmed that in the interim, it will take over all the properties currently allocated to CJ Patel under the sponsorship deal and be the sole sponsors of Fiji FA. It is business as usual for Fiji FA.
Vodafone Fiji has effectively replaced CJ Patel for the sponsorship properties that were allocated to CJ Patel. Accordingly, the National Football league, which is scheduled to start in a week’s time will now be known as Vodafone Premier League.
This is an important year for Fiji FA with the Vodafone U23 playing in their first ever Olympic Games and we would like to ensure minimum disruption to Fiji FA programme to ensure a successful outing for our Olympians.
The consortium sponsorship of $5million by Vodafone and CJ Patel Group for five years was announced in 2014.
