A setback for Suva in the lead up to Pillay Garments Champion vs. Champion (CVC) as star players from the Fiji U23 team have not been turning up for training.

Gurjit Singh told local press reps Nickel Chand and Filipe Baravilala are not turning up in any of the training sessions, and Rusiate Matarerega had suffered a cut on his toe on Wednesday.

Some of the U23 players turned up today (yesterday) but not all of them. We are still missing two players Nickel Chand and Filipe Baravilala.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with them as both of them are good players and their absence has hindered our preparations.

I have spoken to the other players and they have turned up to their various districts and started training with them so our players have no excuse not to turn up.

The Suva side, captained by Poasa Bainivalu, is confident of his team and is looking forward to a good game ahead.

The first leg of the CVC kicks off at 7.00pm tonight at the ANZ Stadium, Suva and the second would be played on Sunday at Prince Charles Park, Nadi at 3 pm.
