Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has deferred the dates for the Pillay Garment’s Champion vs Champion series following a request made by the Suva Football Association.

The new dates will see Suva hosting Nadi at 7pm on February 5th.  The return leg will be at 3pm on February 7th in Nadi.

The Suva Football earlier requested to shift the dates of the CVC as 7 of their players are away with Fiji U23 side in the Spain tour for the build up for the 2016 RIO Olympic.

Suva Football President, Mahendra Prasad, thanked the Fiji FA for accepting their request:

I would like to thank the the Fiji FA for listening to our request as Suva got majority of the players in the National U23 squad who are currently at the Spain tour.

Mr. Prasad said the side is currently training under coach Gurjit Singh as nine of their season players are currently away.

7 of our players are in the in the U23 team for the Spain tour and Uliasi Tamanisau is engaged with the Fiji Futsal side and Pita Rabo is with the National U17 side.

Nadi Soccer President, Navaneeda Gounder, said he was not happy with the decision made by Fiji FA:

What Fiji FA has done is totally wrong to hear Suva Soccer and at the same time penalise the Nadi soccer.

I am not happy just because we are not getting enough time to rest and to play the second game while looking at the travelling and resting time for the players.

Mr. Goundar added this was an important competition which should be played over two weekends.

Fiji FA competitions manager, Amitesh Pal, said the dates have been shifted as this is the first football event for the season:

This is the first major football event of the season and we want to start it in a big way.

In order to organise a successful CVC we should have 2 strong teams and Suva was not able to field the best team as most of their season players are away with the National U23 team.

Mr. Pal said after considering all the matters the Fiji FA has decided to shift the dates to the 5th and 7th on February.

In the best interest of the both teams and the football at large in the country we have decided to shifts the dates.

Suva players Jale Dreloa, Antonio Tuivuna, Rusiate Matarerega, Filipe Baravilala, Sakaraia Naisua, Nickel Chand and Tevita Koroi are currently with the U23 side in Spain.
