The Vodafone Fiji team drew 2-2 to Papua New Guinea in their final pool game at the 2016 Oceania Football Confederation U-17 Women’s Championship in the Cook Islands yesterday.

The Yogendra Dutt coached side hammered the Papua New Guinea defense well in the early stage of the game but failed to utilise the chances created.

Belinda Giada gave an early lead to the  Papua New Guinea side in the 30th minute. Papua New Guinea lead Fiji 1-0 at the half time breather.

Fiji fought back immediately, early in the second half pursuing  the Papua New Guinea defense and equalised in the 49th minutes after an own goal by  Papua New Guinea.

Giada got her second in the 66th minutes giving  Papua New Guinea a 2-1 lead in the second half.

Cema Nasau got a late equalizer for the Fiji side in the 84th minutes.

Full time Fiji 2 vs  Papua New Guinea 2. Fiji now have 4 points in group B and a spot in the semi-final.

In the other game Cook Islands thrashed Vanuatu 5-1 in the pool B encounter.

Fiji now face New Zealand in the first semi-final, while Papua New Guinea face off with New Caledonia in the second. Both matches will be played at the Cook Islands Football Academy, Rarotonga on 21 January.
