The sevens coach position will be advertised next week.

A statement from the Fiji Rugby Union has today confirmed that after discussions with Coach Ben Ryan the position will be up for grabs after his contract expires.

FRU chief executive officer, John O’Connor said that the organisation had to respect the coach’s decision to leave despite their enthusiasn to renew his contract.

O’CONNOR: “On behalf of the Fiji Rugby Union Chairman and Board of Directors I would like to extend our appreciation for what Ryan has done for the National 7s Team. The discussions with Ben indicates his desire to take a break from rugby by returning home to England and to explore options for his future undertaking. The FRU Board respects this decision by Ryan and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

He said that the appointment of the new sevens coach will be made well before the commencement of the 2016/2017 HSBC World Series.

O’CONNOR: “The position of Fiji 7s Head Coach will soon be advertised with an appointment to be made well before the commencement of the 2016/2017 HSBC World 7s Series. Ryan is most welcome to reapply for the position should he have a change of heart.We would like to wish Ben and his wife Natalie safe travels as they depart our shores to return to their home in England.”

The position for the Head Coach for the women’s rugby including the national sevens and fifteen’s teams will also be advertised after women’s coach Chris Cracknel dvised the Union that he was moving on.
