The Vodafone Fiji Sevens team came out victorious after they won 21 points to 15 against Australia in the Cup Final of the Las Vegas Sevens at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas today. Australia led 15-0 at half-time scoring three quick tries.

Vodafone Fiji 7’s Head coach Ben Ryan told World Rugby that the win was for the people of Fiji and he was glad that the team was able to put smiles on faces of all here in Fiji.

That wind was such a leveller. In some pretty awful conditions I thought Australia played brilliantly. In the first half their game management was excellent and we just managed to hang onto the ball at some crucial times in the second half and we got a bit of momentum.

It’s been an awful tragic time back in Fiji for the whole population and there’s going to be some dark days ahead. I am just glad that we have put a smile on the face of all the people back home.

Fiji Captain Osea Kolinisau had this to say.

One week after the cyclone struck we went back into camp and all the players said we were going to play. I reminded the boys this week that we needed to remember the people back home who were victims of Cyclone Winston and that we needed to give them something to be happy about after all the devastation.

Fiji currently leads the World Series Standings with 91 points, second place is South Africa with 86 points, in third place is New Zealand with 82 points, Australia is fourth with 73 points.
