The Fiji flag was officially raised in the Olympic Games Village today.

The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was the special chief guest for Team Fiji’s Flag Raising ceremony.

It was an emotional moment for the Team Fiji contingent led by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama as the noble banner blue with the National Anthem sung during the flag ceremony.

BAINIMARAMA: “All Fijians love sports, so we are looking forward to our team participating well and of course we want all the Gold to come back home.”

Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens captain Osea Kolinisau will be carrying his country’s flag during the opening of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Prime Minister and Team Fiji representatives were welcomed by those already at the village.

The welcoming event was hosted at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.

The flag raising ceremony took place at 5pm (Rio time).
