Ms Smith said this would be one of the main challenges for other countries.

SMITH: “My primary focus at the moment is trying t get the time difference because it is entirely different from the other Olympics and even the World’s or any competition I had been to, we are doing heats at 1 pm from the 10 am.”

She also said they would be changing their sleeping pattern as competitions would be done at night as well.

SMITH: “We are having to change our sleeping pattern going to bed at midnight and waking up at 9 o’clock, we are trying to figure it out how we are going to do this.

According to Ms Smith, swimming duo Meli Malani and Matelita Buadromo did their first pool session yesterday.

SMITH: “We’re really good we have all settled in. We went to out of the village today to the competition venue, and there we did a couple of sessions. Meli Malani came in and joined us so we had the full complete team. The pool seems fast meaning when you race you will have to be fast.”

The competition venue she adds is a walking distance from the village and is a boost to the two athletes.

SMITH: “The competition site is just a walking distance, and that should be the boost for the swimmers. We are very fortunate that we shouldn’t travel so far, the testing would be when competition day one starts. The temperature is right, and you know the nerves are there, Matelita and Meli so yes so good.”
