Fijian archer Robert Elder has secured his place at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil in August.

He gained the necessary minimum qualification score at the World Archery Accredited Partner Centre in Thailand to make it to the 2016 Rio Olympics on merit.

Elder who gained Fiji a quota in the sport of archery needed to gain the MQS of 640 points which he had not done in an accredited qualifying event until Friday last week.

Elder in a statement thanked God for renewing his strength to be able to qualify for the Olympics.

ELDER: “God gives me the strength, motivation and the will to push on. All the glory goes to my savior and provider.”

He said he was always hoping to achieve a personal best at every tournament he went to and that he wanted to peak at the right moment before the Rio Olympic Games.

Elder has been upgrading his equipment to the latest model, managed to secure a high-level Coach and is on a special diet in efforts to better his ranking from the last Olympics which was 13th.

There were 128 qualifying places available for archery at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
