Members of Team Fiji were reminded to strive for their best and be good ambassadors for our country on and off the field at the Rio Olympics in Brazil next month.

President, Major-General (Retired) Jioji Konousi Konrote reminded the Fijian Athletes and officials this morning when they presented their Itatau at Government House, Suva.

KONROTE: “Fiji has very high expectations on you, I encourage you all to do your best in Rio and be good ambassadors for our country both on and off the field.”

The President told the athletes to build better relations with other competitors.

KONROTE: “Rio is not only to promote competition but also to promote good will, friendship and peace with other men and women.”

President Konrote wished the athletes well ahead their tour to the Olympic Games.

KONROTE: “I congratulate each one of you for making it to the Olympics team well done, I am aware that the road to Rio intensified for the last couple of weeks. I take this opportunity to wish you well in every success in Rio and may the almighty God continue to bless each one of you and our beloved nation Fiji.”

There are 88 athletes with officials travelling to the Rio Olympics.

The first batch of Team Fiji leaves on Sunday while the last group departs on July 29.
