Pool draws announced for 7s competitions at the Rio Olympics

The pool draws for the men’s and women’s Rugby Sevens competitions in the Olympic Games have been confirmed.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team are in Pool A with USA, Argentina and hosts Brazil.

In Pool B South Africa, Australia, France and Spain while Pool C has New Zealand, Great Britain, Kenya and Japan.

Meanwhile in the women’s, the Telecom Fijiana team is pooled with USA, Australia and Colombia in Pool A.

The women’s tournament will be held from 6th to 8th of August while the men competition will be played from the 9th to 11th at Deodoro Olympic Park in Brazil.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s  team are likely to be pooled with USA, Argentina and hosts Brazil in the Olympic Games in August.

Coach Ben Ryan earlier stated that the boys will go through a tough training session this week.

The 7s team is scheduled to train at the Uprising Beach Resort on Thursday before wrapping up their third week of training at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes on Saturday.

Ben Ryan will name the 13 member squad on the 15th on next month.

He was referring to the fitness of the players and how well they will perform in their training session.

Ryan said training will be a level up compared to the past weeks they’ve had.

RYAN: “It is going to be a bit harder than the one we already having now.”

The boys will have to impress Ben this week.

RYAN: “They’ve got to hang in there before we tape it for the week.”

Meanwhile the 7s team were training at the Sigatoka sand dunes.
