Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel has wished the boys well ahead of their competition today.

Mr Patel said this is a lifetime opportunity for the players and therefore to make use of it.

PATEL: “I wish the team all the best and I wish the people of Fiji support the team. It is an achievement for the players together with the officials, this is a once in a while opportunity to go to the Olympics.”

He said the Fiji team is an elite team which will Korea this morning.

PATEL: “This is an elite of the 16 teams that is participating in Football Olympics. In the World Cup it is 32 teams, and to be one of the 16 teams to participate in the Olympics is an achievement that will be unmatched. I do not know when will we ever qualify again so we have to make use of this opportunity.”

Mr Patel said he is confident that the side will deliver after recalling their surprise match against Honduras during the Under 20 World Cup tournament.

PATEL: “The players will do it. It is nothing that people can count us out, in the Under 20 World Cup we gave a surprise to Honduras we beat them 3-0, so anything can happen in the first game against South Korea.”

He stressed that if the boys would play according to their game plan they will be able to win their first game.

PATEL: “If the boys do great and follow the coaches game plan I think we will be a competitive team, we are not just there to make numbers.”

The side will play Korea at 11am this morning.
