Team Fiji’s women’s 7s team has lost to Great Britain 26-7 in the quarter-final of the women’s rugby competition.

Litia Naiqato scored a try in the first half, with a successful conversion from Lavenia Tinai.

Abbie Brown and Joanne Watmore tries made the Great Britain team march into the semi-final.

The Fijiana will now play USA in the second semifinal of the fifth place playoff at 5am tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, Australia will face Canada in the first medal semifinal while Great Britain will meet New Zealand in the second semi-final after they edged USA 5-0 in the quarterfinal.

The medal semifinals start at 5.30am tomorrow while the women’s 7s Olympic final will kick off at 10am tomorrow.

Team Fiji’s women’s 7s team have booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a 36-0 defeat of Colombia.

Fiji led 24‑0 at halftime and scored six tries in the match.

Raijieli Daveua grabbed Fijiana’s first two tries in a comfortable victory over their lesser experienced South American opponents.

Fiji will face Great Britain in their quarterfinal match at 9am this morning.

In other quarterfinals, Australia will meet Spain at 8am, Canada will face France at 8.30am while New Zealand will clash with USA at 9.30am today.

Fiji will meet NZ or USA in the semifinal if they beat Great Britain in the quarterfinal.

The semifinals start at 5.30am tomorrow while the women’s 7s Olympic final will kick off at 10am tomorrow.

The Fiji women’s 7s team were thrashed by the World Series Champions Australia 36-0 in their second match of the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s sevens competition this morning.

The side was not able to score a try in the game.

Australia led in the first half 19-0 and maintained their dominance in the second half.

They were able to score another three tries in the second half, however, conversion on their two tries was unsuccessful.

The Ana Roqica captained side will need to work on their defensive skills to gain victory in their third Pool Game against Colombia.

Litia Naiqato was yellow carded in the very last minute of play.

The Fijiana team will need to win from Colombia to be able to qualify for the quarter-finals.

They will face Colombia in their third pool game at 4am tomorrow.

The National women’s rugby team have started their campaign in Rio on a high note.

The Chris Cracknell coached side defeated USA 12-7 in Rio.

The side was with so much confidence during the game and displayed high-class rugby with hard hitting tackles to keep their opponents under control.

Fiji led 7-0 at half time.

Fiji scored two tries in the match through Timaima Ravisa and Luisa Tisolo.

USA scored a try with a successful conversion but unfortunately time was against their side.

The Fijiana maintained momentum till the last whistle blow from the referee.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s pool opponents Australia and Colombia also played this morning.

Australian won the match thrashing Colombia 53‑0.

The Fijiana 7s team will play Australia in their second pool match at 9.30 this morning and then take on Colombia at 4am tomorrow.
