Under the sponsorship,  Netball Fiji will receive up to $8,000 to help with venue hire fees and other expenses.

Digicel Fiji CEO, Darren McLean said development at the grassroots level in the sport is vital.

MCLEAN: “We are major sponsors of Fiji Netball events and this is part of our contribution towards the development of the sport at grassroots level because we believe that growth at this level is important for the sport to succeed at provincial and national levels. We hope our support will impact significantly on the development of primary schools netball, and help some of these young girls grow in the sport and play for the Pearls in the future.”

Punjas Group Marketing Manager, Gopal Jadhav said it was a particularly proud moment for Punjas, firstly as they can lend their support to a sport that is popular in Fiji.

JADHAV: “This competition will provide the young netballers the much-needed exposure to enable them to grow their netball careers.” We hope that by sponsoring netball and especially this competition more girls will look to the sport as one that can contribute to a healthy lifestyle and provide economic opportunities for them and their families.

The Punjas Digicel Central Netball Invitational Championship will be the biggest event in the sport this year, with 108 teams participating. 600 players will be involved with close to 700 games played in three days.

The competition will be held in six grades from under-9 to 14-year-olds.

The 20 districts will be playing in this championship from 9th to 11th August at the National Netball Center and LICI courts in Suva.
