A new Netball Fiji coach may be appointed as early as April 2016 following Kate Carpenter’s resignation last month.

Carpenter who was appointed Netball Fiji coach in June 2014 resigned last month citing personal reasons.

Speaking to Radio NZ,  Netball Fiji President Wainikiti Bogidrau says Carpenter’s decision to quit came as a surprise but added they have already begun the hunt for a replacement.

“We’re looking for someone with experience in coaching in a higher-ranked national team or even an ANZ franchise team [from the Trans Tasman competition] or aged representatives, so we are looking at a coach that will be able to develop our national team and be on par with player development and also to guide local coaches to get some form of national accreditation”.

Wainikiti Bogidrau says funding from the Fiji National Sports Commission, to attract high-profile coaches from overseas is available, so Netball Fiji will begin discussions with the government to access this.

Kate Carpenter helped Netball Fiji defend their Pacific Games title and took the national team to the World Cup in Sydney in 2105, where they finished at 11th place.
