Digicel Fiji has shown its support for the defending boys and girls champions, Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School at this week’s 2016 Coca Cola Games.
Digicel Fiji’s Head of Marketing, Ms Sheryl Singh at the Digicel headquarters yesterday revealed that both schools have been given cash sponsorship and another support for the three-day spectacle and this contribution is part of the continued commitment to supporting and developing young athletes and sports people in Fiji.
SINGH: “We are pleased to confirm cash sponsorship for both Natabua and Jasper this week. We are proud to associate our brand with the two champion schools. The cash incentive will help both schools with their outfit and competition kit for the Games.”
Natabua chalked its name in history books after taking out the boys title for the first time last year and Jasper has been queens of the games for the past three years.
SINGH: “Every child wants to participate at the Coca-Cola Games and this is a great achievement for these young athletes, as they not only get to show their talent, but it’s also a huge confidence and development boost for them. Digicel is happy to be part of the Natabua and Jasper campaign this year.”
Also at the sponsorship event was Digicel brand ambassador and current Boys 100m & 200m record holder in Inter & Senior grades – Banuve Tabakaucoro, who announced a bet for all athletes at this function.
TABAKAUCORO: “A few days ago I had put up a cash incentive for the intermidiate boys 100m and 200m and the same for the senior boys 100m and 200m, those are the events I hold record in, which is 10.71sec and 21.7seconds in the inter and 10.43 and 21.04 in the senior grade.
“So this is just an extra boost to give to the athletes to get out there and just to do their best, a lot of our athletes just like to stand on the edge, this cash incentive is just to kick them off that edge and just get in there and go for it.”
“Its $200 for each record, so I have got $800 to lose over the next three days and I am really hoping that I will lose it and like I said before, I pay very close attention to the Coca Cola Games and the athletes that compete in it.
“I want the athletes not to follow in my footsteps, I want them to go on and be greater then what Banuve Tabakaucoro has done.”
Digicel and the two schools have decided to keep the sponsorship amount as a disclosed figure and would not comment on the amount.
