The Fiji Meteorological Service has maintained warnings for the entire Fiji group despite Tropical Depression TD04F gradually moving away from the Fiji group.

  • A heavy rain warning is in force for the whole of Fiji
  • A strong wind warning remains for all land areas

5.16 AM: Tropical Depression 04F was located near 18.6S 175.8E or about 200km west-southwest of Nadi or about 260km west of Kadavu at 4 am today. TD04F moving west-southwest at 18km/hr. The associated rain bands and active trough continue to affect the country.

Heavy rain, flood warnings back for whole of Fiji

December 19 – The Fiji Meteorological Service has reissued heavy rain and flood warnings for Fiji.

  • A heavy rain warning is in force the entire Fiji group.
  • A flood warning in effect for low-lying areas Fiji-wide.
  • Low tide at 5.38PM / High tide at 11.45PM.
  • Tropical Depression TD04F is slow-moving, currently located closest to Fiji it has ever been, and has a small chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

3.30PM: Tropical Depression 04F was located about 90km north-northwest of Nadi at 1 pm today. The associated active trough of low pressure and rain bands continue to affect the country.

10.45AM: Periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms over northern and eastern Viti Levu, western half of Vanua Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group. Occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and possible thunderstorms elsewhere.

6.54AM: Tropical Depression 04F remains to the far west of Fiji. Associated cloud and rain continued to affect the country.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms over northern and eastern Viti Levu, western half of Vanua Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group. Occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and possible thunderstorms elsewhere.

Rain expected to clear today, but some warnings remain

December 18 – The Fiji Meteorological Service is predicting periods of rain over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lomaiviti and Lau group today but is expecting rain to ease to showers later today.

  • TDO4F is expected to move farther away from Fiji
  • Heavy raining warning remains for eastern Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti Group, but is cancelled for the rest of Fiji
  • A flood warning remains for low-lying areas for the whole of Fiji.
  • A flood alert remains for some areas in Nausori, Keyasi and Dewala

5.30AM: Tropical Depression 04F lies to the far west of Fiji. Associated cloud and rain continues to affect the country.

No cyclone yet but expect heavy rain over weekend

December 17 – Tropical Depression TD04F may not become a cyclone but the heavy downpour and flooding caused by the active rain bands entered into the third consecutive day today.

  • TD04F is not projected to develop into a cyclone.
  • A heavy rain and strong wind warnings remain for Fiji.
  • A flood warning is in force for low-lying areas for the whole of Fiji.
  • High tide is at 9.48 am and low tide at 3.38 pm.

FIJI MET: “Under the current and expected conditions, TD04F is expected remain as a tropical depression and may not develop into tropical cyclone…Expect more rain with periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms over most parts of the country today and through the weekend. With more rain forecasted, the chances of flooding of major rivers are high.”

4.27AM: Tropical Depression 04F was located about 380km west-northwest of Nadi at 4 am today.

Rain concern as TD04F may move away from Fiji

December 15 – Tropical Depression 04F is slow moving and may develop into a category one cyclone tomorrow but is not expected to make landfall in Fiji.

  • TD04F may develop into a category 1 cyclone at 6 pm tomorrow (Saturday).
  • A heavy rain and strong wind warnings remain for Fiji.
  • A flood warning is in force for low-lying areas for the whole of Fiji.
  • A flood alert is in force for some areas in Nausori.
  • A flood alert issued for areas in Rakiraki is cancelled.
  • High tide at 8.58pm.

8.00 PM: Tropical Depression 04F was located about 330km west-northwest of Nadi at 7 pm today.

3.30PM: Tropical Depression 04F was located about 350km west of Nadi at 1 pm today.

10.45AM: Tropical Depression 04F was located 440km west of Yasawa-i-Rara or about 460 km west-northwest of Nadi at 7am this morning.

8.21AM: Tropical Depression 04F was located 340km west-northwest of Yasawa-i- Rara or about 390 km north-west of Nadi at 3 am tonight.

Category 1 tropical cyclone expected tomorrow

December 16 – TD04F has intensified overnight from a Tropical Disturbance into a Tropical Depression as a high wind and heavy rain warnings remain in force for all land areas in Fiji.

7.00 pm: Tropical Depression 04F was located 340km west-northwest of Yasawa-i- Rara or about 380 km northwest of Nadi at 1 pm today.

1.27PM: A forecast map released by Fiji Met this morning projects TD04F to develop into a category one tropical cyclone by midday on Friday.

10.30AM: A flood alert is in force for low-lying areas adjacent o Rakiraki town and downstream from Rakiraki station.  According to Fiji Met, the level at Rakiraki station was 1.72M at 9 am which is 0.22M above alert level.

8.40AM: A flood warning is now in force for all low-lying areas and small streams adjacent to major rivers for the whole of Fiji.

In a statement, the Fiji Meteorological Service said the chance of TD04F developing into a Tropical Cyclone over Fiji Waters has now been elevated to moderate to high  (>50%). If the system develops into a tropical cyclone, it is most likely to be a CAT 1 or marginal CAT 2 strength over Fiji Waters.

A 3-day outlook by Fiji MET gives a high probability of TD04F developing into a cyclone on Saturday.

Tropical Depression TD04F is expected to move towards the Fiji group over the next 18-24 hours.

5.30AM: Tropical Depression 04F was located 220 km west-southwest of Rotuma or about 560 km north-northwest of Nadi at 1.00 am today. It is expected to gradually deepen and move south-east towards the group from later today.

Wednesday, December 14

3.00PM: Tropical Disturbance 04F was located 290 km south-west of Rotuma or about 430 km north-north-west of Nadi at 1 pm today. It is expected to deepen and move towards the group from later tomorrow gradually.

10.00 AM: Tropical Disturbance 04F was located 170 km south-west of Rotuma or about 470 km north-north-west of Nadi at 7 am today. It is expected to deepen and move towards the group from later tomorrow gradually.

6.00AM: Tropical Disturbance 04F was located 90km south-west of Rotuma or about 500km north-west of Nadi at 5 am today. It is expected to deepen and move towards the group from later tomorrow gradually.

Tropical Disturbance 04F expected to strengthen tomorrow

December 14 – A heavy rain and strong wind warning is still in force for the entire Fiji group with rain expected to ease tomorrow morning but increase again from tomorrow night.

The Fiji Meteorological Service is warning of flash flooding as a result of localised heavy rain.

9.00pm: Tropical Disturbance 04F was located near 12.0S and 177.0E or 50 km north of Rotuma or about 640 km north-northwest of Nadi at 6 pm today. It is expected to deepen and move towards the group from later tomorrow gradually. Associated active rain bands continue to affect the group.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Occasional rain over most places. Isolated thunderstorms with rain expected. The rain was becoming frequent and heavy from later tomorrow. East to south-east winds 40 to 50 km/hr, with momentary gust to 60 km/hr. Rough to very rough seas.

Low-pressure system expected to become tropical depression

3 pm: No change in the current situation.  The next special weather bulletin will be issued at 9 pm today.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain alert for the whole of Fiji and warned that localised heavy rain might lead to flash flooding.

According to Fiji Met, there is a slow moving low-pressure system in the NorthWest of Fiji which is currently affecting the Fiji group.  The low-pressure system is gradually deepening and is expected to become a tropical disturbance today and a tropical depression tomorrow.

Fiji Met gives a low to moderate (20%-50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over Fiji waters.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR ALL LAND AREAS OF FIJI.

Situation: Tropical Disturbance 04F was located near 13.1S and 176.6E and about 520 km North of Nadi at 1 pm today. It is expected to deepen and move towards the group from later tomorrow gradually. Associated trough of low pressure affects the group.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Occasional rain over most places. Isolated thunderstorms with heavy fall expected. The rain was becoming frequent and heavy from later tomorrow. East to south-east winds 40 to 50 km/hr, with momentary gust to 60 km/hr. Rough to very rough seas.
