The storm warning previously in force for Fulaga, Ogea and Vatoa is now cancelled.

A special weather bulletin issued from the Nadi Weather Office this morning said a Gale Warning remains in effect for Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Fulaga, Ogea, Kabara, Namuka, Komo, Moce, Oneata and the island of Lakeba.

Nadi Weather Office, Director of Meteorology, Ravind Kumar said they will continue to assess the system as there is a high possibility that Cyclone Winston will come back into the Fiji waters.

Well, this is based on the current perceptions that we see that the Tropical Cyclone is now moving to the East of Fiji and heads towards Tonga and later in the week we predict it will move towards Fiji again. We are seeing for it to happen later in the week.

A strong wind warning remains in force for the rest of Lau group and Lomaiviti group.

Tropical Cyclone Winston centre [987hpa] category 2 was located near 20.1 South 177.2 West or about 170km East-Northeast of Ono-i-Lau or 270km south-east of Lakeba at 6 am this morning.

The Cyclone is moving Northeast at about 26km/hr.

Director Kumar said destructive winds may begin several hours before the cyclone centre passes overhead or nearby.

Close to its core, the cyclone is estimated to have average winds of 95km/hr and momentary gusts to 130km/hr.

The Nadi Weather Office says on this track; the cyclone is expected to be located about 350km East-Northeast of Ono-i-Lau or 320km East-Southeast of Lakeba at 6 pm today and about 500km East-Northeast of Ono-i-Lau or about 440km east of Lakeba at 6 am tomorrow.

Tropical Cyclone Winston is moving further away from Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office, Na Draki, and the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre are all predicting that Cyclone Winston is expected to go to Tonga and then curve and head back into the Fiji waters later this week.
