FMS director Ravin Kumar clarified this adding that the weather will clear up within the next few days.

KUMAR: “The trough of low pressure that was affecting the country within the last few days is now weakening and moving away from the group so now you will see occassional rain will continue and it will start to ease off.”

The director confirmed that fine weather should begin by tomorrow except for the odd brief rain.

Mr Kumar said the flood warning is still maintained for low lying areas and streams adjacent to and downstream from Wailotua village.

The director said the current spate of bad weather normally occurs with the transition from one phase of El Nino to another but has been prolonged for several days in the country.

KUMAR: “Looking at that, there could be high availability of rainfall from one month into another so this (phenomenon) is embedded within that.”
