This  has been issued from the Fiji Meteorological Services in Nadi a short while ago.

Fiji Meteorological Service Director Ravin Kumar said a flood alert has been issued.

KUMAR: “A flood alert is now in force for all low lyong areas, small streams and flood prone areas adjacent to the major rivers of the whole of Fiji and a flood has also been issued for those people living closely to Wailotua river and the Rakiraki river.”

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Permanent Secretary Mr Meleti Bainimarama said that the continuous rain could cause flooding in flood prone areas and appropriate measures should be taken accordingly.

BAINIMARAMA: “For those that live near rivers, streams, waterways, and those in low lying areas, you are requested to be watchful. Parents are advised to keep children away from swimming in rivers and playing in flooded drains and to monitor their whereabouts at all times.”

Mr Bainimarama said the public need to be extra cautious as  as rainfall continues to be recorded around the country.
