5.8 magnitude earthquake off Tonga, no tsunami threat for Fiji

An 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 288km south south-east of Nukua’alofa, Tonga Islands at 7.30pm today.

Fiji’s Mineral Resources Department released a statement a short while ago, saying there was no tsunami threat or warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) for the local coastline. The department would however monitor for any disturbances should it arise.
