Nineteen Evacuation centers have been activated in the Nadi area.
Police Commander Western, SSP Marika Yalimaiwai spoke to Newswire, he said he is currently with a team helping people to move into the Saint Andrew’s Primary School evacuation center.
Currently there are 300 evacuees at the Saint Andrew’s evacuation center.
The Divisional Planning Officer for the Western Division, Mr. Sitiveni Tavaga told Newswire that the following evacuation centers have been activated for the people in the Nadi area.

- Sangam Primary School
- Vuniyasi District
- Nadi Muslim School
- NASA Military Camp-Namaka
- Dratabu Village Hall
- Mount St.Marry School
- Saunaka Methodist Church
- Nauliano House-Koroivolu
- Labour House-Koroivolu
- Nadi College
- Ba Provincial Office-Nadi
- Korovuto Community Hall
- Korovuto College
- Sikituru Village Hall
- Navoci Community Hall
- Narewa Methodist Church
- Sushil’s Residence – Kartaram
- Nadi Court House.
Mr. Tavaga said the water level in Nadi Town is about 6.2 metres.
A Nurse from the Tavua Hospital said that people are now taking shelter at Tavualevu Village hall since last night.
We are experiencing a heavy rain at the moment and it has flooded. There has been no services affected area in the Tavua hospital and right now we are using generators. People have been rushing to the Tavua Korolevu hall since last night.
A Senior Officer from the Ba Town Council said the town is currently facing a heavy rain downpour.
At the moment, we having a heavy downpour, it’s a continuous rainfall since morning. The heavy rainfall has caused some areas to flood. The Elevuka river which runs behind Ba Town has burst out, flooding the Ba Bus stand. The market and most of the business have closed due to the flood. Most businesses have closed down before 4pm because the high tide.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Northern, Mr. Jovesa Vocea told Newswire that there is no evacuation center is opened yet.
We just sent out our notices to our people living in low-lying areas, they have been advised and if they see the situation goes worse we advise them while there is still daylight for them to move to higher grounds, but so far the reports from our districts there has been no evacuation centers open in the North.
Heavy rain falling at times but it’s not continuous, so waters just come up and recede again if it had continued like in other divisions like the Western there would be more floods in flood-prone areas.
Commissioner Vocea said he just came back from some of the low-lying areas.
All the main rivers here, the Labasa, Qawa and Wailevu river have not burst their banks even though is high tide now, it’s all under control for now.
