The U.S. Embassy has announced an additional $1 million USD grant to UN World Food program in support of its emergency food assistance to the victims of cyclone Winston.

The funds are provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Food for Peace (FFP).

Previously, the United States provided $500,000 USD to sustain displaced families with water, sanitation and hygiene assistance, $200,000 USD to support humanitarian coordination, $400,000 USD for reconstruction efforts and $100,000 USD in emergency relief.

On January 22, 2016, the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance launched a program called “Building Resilient Communities” with the Fiji Red Cross, which includes a grant of $1,278,000 USD.
