Tuvalu donates $249k to the PM’s relief fund

The Tuvalu Prime Minister, Hon. Enele Sopoaga, donated $249,939.71 to Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama, yesterday during their meeting at the Prime Minister’s office in Suva.

PM Bainimarama expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Fijian government and Fijian people for the donation. It was also an opportunity for him to brief Prime Minister Sopoaga on the relief and rehabilitation works carried out.

Tuvaluan PM, Hon Sopoaga said the donation was through a public appeal in Tuvalu which lasted for two weeks collection around AUD$10,000 while the Government of Tuvalu contributed AUD$150,000.

The Government of Tuvalu and the people of Tuvalu would like to express their sympathy to the people of Fiji during these difficult times. Our prayers are with the Government of Fiji.

The donation will go into the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund, which was established to directly assist those Fijians affected by TC Winston.
