Three prominent universities in Fiji have assessed their current situation and issued advisories on the resumption of classes. 

University of the South Pacific(USP):

  • All USP staffs of Laucala campus would report working tomorrow, Monday 29 February 2016 to prepare for possible re-start of teaching on Tuesday, 1 March, where a decision that would be made depending greatly on how our generators perform during their full load in a long duration of continuous operations testing from 6.00am this morning to tomorrow.
  • The Lautoka Campus still does not have electricity and a decision on the opening of USP Lautoka Campus will be made later.
  • Labasa campus is already open, and staff and students should attend as normal.

Fiji National University(FNU):

The Fiji National University’s Chancellor and Chair Mr Ikbal Jannif met with the Senior Management Group (SMG) to discuss and confirm the resumption dates of the University campuses and centres.

The following campuses will open on Monday 29 February 2016:

  • Koronivia
  • Nursing – Tamavua
  • Narere
  • Derrick – Samabula
  • Nasinu
  • Natabua – Lautoka
  • Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA)
  • McGregor
  • Nabua
  • Nadi
  • Nasese
  • Maritime Nadi – CAAFI Compound
  • Pasifika & Hoodless House
  • Sigatoka
  • Department of Public Health (DPH)
  • Labasa

The following campuses will open on the dates provided below:

  • Rakiraki Monday 7 March 2016
  • Naceva Monday 14 March 2016
  • Naviti Monday 14 March 2016
  • Marine Drive Monday 14 March 2016

For students based at UniStudio, Raiwai Campus, classes will commence on Tuesday 29 March at the following places:

  • Music – Nasese (Tiri Restaurant)
  • Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy – UniLodge Derrick Campus, Samabula
  • Graphics Arts and Design – Narere (NTPC)
  • Film and TV – ERU Building Room 72A Nasinu Campus
  • Media & Journalism – Nasinu Campus
  • Ba Campus

For students studying at the Ba Campus, classes will commence on Tuesday 29 March at the Civic Centre.

University of Fiji(UniFiji):

A message from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor stated:

Due to an unstable supply of electricity at this time, both the Saweni and Suva Campuses of the University of Fiji remain closed until further notice.
