The President, His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote was yesterday briefed by Disaster Officials on the work carried out so far to provide immediate relief support following the aftermath of TC Winston. 

The Head of State was updated on the work done by agencies to offer this support including the work carried out by the different divisions of government, non-government organisations and charitable organisations.

Officials briefed the President on operations which were currently underway to ensure the provision of basic needs, restoration of essential services and economic recovery.

His Excellency was also informed about the status of Fijians in the worst affected areas and those also living in evacuation centres and the outpouring of foreign assistance in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The President commended the work being conducted by all government and non-governmental organisations and called on everyone to work in close collaboration with each other to ensure all who were adversely affected receive assistance.

The current death toll stands at 42.
