NZ has helped Fiji with more than $7.5m in humanitarian aid

The New Zealand Government has provided the Fijian  Government with a total of seven million five hundred thirty-four thousand nine hundred and twenty-nine dollars in humanitarian assistance.

This was highlighted by the New Zealand High Commission Counsellor-Development, Mr. Jonathan Rowe while updating the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Hon. Inia Seruiratu and other NDMO officials on the works carried out so far by New Zealand.

New Zealand has provided Fiji with a sum amount of $7,534,925 that is Fijian dollars, this is in humanitarian assistance. The New Zealand High Commission has provided the Fijian government with  $68,857 prepositioned relief and supplies $303,050 relief supplies from MFAT warehouse $2,066,250.

New Zealand Defence Force, Colonel Glen King said the NZDF has been rebuilding schools, reconstructing toilets and providing medical services in the last two months.

The New Zealand force has basically been rebuilding schools, homes and providing rehabilitation work at Vanua Balavu, Northern part of Viti Levu, Koro and other parts of Fiji that were affected by the Tropical Cyclone Winston. Aid provided by location, the Suva region recieved 23 tonnes of aid, Vanua Balavu recieved 78.5 tonnes of aid and 2228 tonnes of constructions materials and other outer island apart from the Lau groups recieved 148.5 tonnes of aid.

The Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Hon. Inia Seruiratu thanked the New Zealand Military and Government for their response efforts during and after TC Winston.

I want to reiterate my appreciation on the New Zealand Defence Force and the government for their work, especilly of the hard situation Fiji is in. I hope we will continue to support each other in the future.
