Food relief packs and building materials supplied by Australia and New Zealand were transported to Laucala Island Resort this afternoon by the French Casa airplanes.

The Laucala Island and the Kaibu Island Resort vessels will now ship out the supplies to areas badly affected in Yacata and Vanuabalavu.

Laucala Island Resort Operations Manager, Paul Chek said they were helping because these were their neighbours, their workers and their families.

It’s the right thing to do.

The 2.6 tonnes of construction materials include immediate temporary shelters, tarpaulins, and building tools.

The effort is a cooperation between the French, Australia and New Zealand agreement called FRANZ at the request of the Fijian Government.

The construction materials will be airlifted to the people of Vanua Balavu and Yacata by this afternoon.

The Casa airplanes are the only international airplanes that can land at rural island airfields and airstrips. There are two French Casa planes serving in the DISMAC effort.
