The Fijian Election Office (FEO) yesterday donated a cheque of $9,143.02 and relief items  to the Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum towards the  Prime Minister’s natural disaster relief and rehabilitation fund.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem presented the cheque which was a collective effort by his staff, who traded their annual leave to the FEO to make up the contribution.

In addition, stationery items such as pens, white board and permanent markers, rulers, boxes of chalk and scissors were also contributed to the relief fund.

The AG acknowledged the FEO and its staff for their initiative in raising the funds.

We are grateful to receive this contribution towards the Fijian Government’s vital work in rebuilding Fiji and rebuilding the lives of the Fijian people.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, said the Elections Office staff were determined to contribute to the relief effort and the Fijian Elections Office was happy to facilitate the annual leave trade off.

Many members of our staff have been to the affected areas to carry out assessments or to register voters and have developed close personal links to those who have been affected. They were keen to make a difference and we all agreed an annual leave trade off was the best way to raise an appropriate amount. While it may be relatively modest in terms of the overall relief effort, I am very proud of the commitment we have made.
