The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) has temporarily waived import requirements for all animal and food products that are currently allowed into Fiji to facilitate relief aid sent to assist Fijian families in the wake of TC Winston.

BAF Executive Chairman, Mr. Xavier Riyaz Khan, has warned that this waiver is strictly for relief rations coordinated through DISMAC and excludes any consignments imported into the country for commercial sale.

Below is a list of plant products and a list of all animal products that will be exempted from documentary requirements (import permit and certification) during the declared emergency period.

List of Plant Products Exempted from Import Permit for Relief Aid: Plant Products List

Status of Animal Products for Import into Fiji: Animal Products List

For all animal products imported for relief purposes, the following conditions must be met:

  • Veterinary certificate and Manufacture declaration. These can be exempted only through verification from authorised BAF Animal Technical Section personnel.
  • The product should be commercially prepared and packaged.
  • The product should be in its original sealed packaging on arrival.
  • The country of origin, brand name, and ingredient must be identifiable from the packaging.
  • The integrity of both the product and packaging must be intact to ensure that the product is not adulterated.

The animal products which are of low risk will be released under the supervision of authorised Biosecurity Authority Personnel.

All exempted plant and animal products will still undergo 100 percent inspection at the Fijian border and all mandatory biosecurity treatments.

Any other product imported into Fiji that is not included in the attached lists will be subject to assessment by BAF.
