Miss Fierravanti-Wells will be in the country to see first-hand how the Australian humanitarian aid is being carried out so far.

In a statement, Miss Fierravanti-Wells said she would meet with government ministers to reaffirm Australia’s strong and enduring friendship with Fiji.

FIERRAVANTI-WELLS: “In Fiji, I will meet government ministers and reaffirm Australia’s strong and enduring friendship with Fiji, which is based on extensive people-to-people links and important trade and investment ties. I will also reaffirm Australia’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s longer-term recovery and reconstruction following Tropical Cyclone Winston.”

Miss Fierravanti-Wells added that she would also meet with the Australian Defence Force and Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel to discuss their experiences working together to support Fiji’s immediate response to the cyclone.

FIERRAVANTI-WELLS: “HMAS Canberra, which was deployed to Fiji as part of Operation FIJI ASSIST 2016, will conduct a port visit to Suva from 17 to 20 August. I look forward to meeting both Australian Defence Force and Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel to discuss their experiences working together to support Fiji’s immediate response to the cyclone.”

Meanwhile, the Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific will be in the Ra division on Friday.

FIERRAVANTI-WELLS: “I will also travel to Ra, one of the worst-affected provinces of Fiji, where I will meet members of the local community and see how Australia’s assistance is supporting Fiji’s recovery and reconstruction work, and helping people get back on their feet.”
