The 80 tonnes of tents arrived into the country as part of China’s aid assistance in a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 aircraft from the Chinese Government. The tents were received by the Minister for Disaster Management Honorable Inia Seruiratu at the Nadi international airport this morning.

In receiving the items Hon Seruiratu thanked the Chinese Government for their assistance.

China is a close partner of Fiji and we are grateful to all our international partners for their assistance and in this case China. We (Fiji) were short on tents and the arrival today means we will be able to send them to affected Fijians at the earliest.

The flight this morning in Nadi and another in Nausori are two of eight flights that the Chinese government would send to Fiji as part of their assistance towards rebuilding efforts after TC Winston.

China sends 8 cargo planes of humanitarian assistance to Fiji (16/03/2016)

Eight cargo planes containing aid from China worth $15 million will be arriving into the country from tomorrow.

Natural Disaster Management Office Director Akapusi Tuifagalele confirmed today at a press conference that Fiji will be receiving the first cargo plane of relief supplies from the People’s Republic of China.

As of tomorrow we will be receiving the Chinese aid.
There will be eight cargo planes that will be providing Chinese aid to Fiji starting tomorrow.
The conclusion of the last cargo plane will come in some time next week.

The Chinese Embassy in Fiji had also donated US $1,000,000 to the National Disaster Relief Fund.

Director Tuifagalele thanked the government of the People’s Republic of China for their assistance towards rehabilitation works in Fiji.

The list of items pledged by the Chinese Government includes:
6,000 tents
5,8000 waterproof canvases
15,500 blankets
15,500 pillows with pillowslips
135,000 first aid kits
60 portable diesel generators
60 portable gasoline generators
5,040 torches (all-matel flashlight) with alkaline batteries
5,000 (Led dynamo flashlight)
45,000 bottles of water purification tablets
