64 families assisted in Nalawa district, Ra

Sixty-four families of Vunikavikaloa and Bainisoqosoqo villages in Nalawa district, Ra province have lauded government for its response in addressing the needs of families who have been affected by TC Winston.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Rosy Akbar met with members of these two communities at Vunikavikaloa Arya School in Ra and presented relief supplies.

The assistance in the form of food rations, tarpaulins, hygiene packs and bedsheets benefitted 64 families in these two villages. When informed of the challenges faced by these communities in terms of accessing safe drinking water, Minister Akbar also delivered two 20,000 litres water tanks.

District Advisory Councillor, Ashok Kumar, who is responsible for the two communities, thanked the Ministry for its quick response in assisting the families.

We are grateful that through Minister Akbar, we have been able to get the water tanks for the 64 families. It will also cater for the 264 students who attend the Vunikavikaloa Arya School. The rations will also be of great assistance to these families.

The school has also sustained damages with classes now being conducted in tents. People are optimistic to work together to rebuild the lives of their families. For most of these people farming is their major source of income, these are hardworking people and they are supportive of each other.

Similarly, the Ministry has also provided water tanks (20,000 litres) to Navutulevu village and Navuavua village in the district of Nalawa, Ra. The communities in Ra have thanked Minister Akbar for her commitment to reach out and assist these families who have been adversely affected by cyclone Winston.
