Social Democratic Liberal Party (Sodelpa) Youth President, Pita Waqavonovono, resigned last week to prepare for the 2018 general elections.

Speaking from Levuka today, Mr Waqavonovono said he would make a statement once he got back to Suva.

I’ll confirm with you that I have resigned from SODELPA Youth as president, and I’ve asked them if we can have an AGM to select the new president. I want to start preparing for the upcoming elections and at the same time I don’t want to sort of compromise the role of the president.

Mr Waqavonovono was appointed as Sodelpa’s interim youth president during the party’s annual general meeting in 2014.  Sodelpa office in Suva told Newswire that Waqavonovono would return from Levuka on Wednesday, after which a search for a suitable replacement will commence.

Waqavonovono tendered his resignation notice to Sodelpa’s General Secretary, Pio Tabaiwalu. In his letter of resignation, Waqavonono said he resigned to prepare for the 2018 General Elections.

I believe that the SODELPA YOUTH WING has grown tremendously, and the Party has a large number of young people who are shaping our new Democracy alongside the seasoned politicians in the Party.

I offer my services and support to the Party and look forward to helping SODELPA prepare for the 2018 General Elections.
