A special general meeting of the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) was held in Suva yesterday, where the party made leadership appointments and adopted a new constitution.

The meeting was initially scheduled for last Saturday, but had to be postponed when the party could not acquire a permit in time.

SODELPA President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, told the attendees why the constitutional changes should take place.

Ratu Naiqama said:

There is no constitution that is perfect in this world because it was written by the people and anything that is written by the people can be changed by the people it is for us that needs to understand what is good that we have written in the constitution to be meaningful.

Ratu Naiqama urged SODELPA members to understand the important role they play in moving the party forward.

This is our duty, tell us the truth on what you want if you are not happy with anything that is how politics work because after this address we will sit here as politician and this will be a political meeting.

We are pleading with the Marama Roko Tui Dreketi to the leaders of the Kubuna Confederacy come and lead us and everything should be in place in our journey.

Three vice presidents were elected:

  • Roko Tui Rewa Savenaca Kamikamica
  • Anare Jale
  • Ratu Kiniviliame Kiliraki

Close to 200 people attended the SODELPA special AGM.
