Major-General Rabuka presented a traditional apology to the party soon after he was named.

He sought the forgiveness of members for his role in the 1987 coup and also sought the forgiveness of SODELPA women members.

SODELPA president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu accepted the tabua on behalf of the party.

Meanwhile, Pita Waqavonovono who resigned from SODELPA said Rabuka is likely to cause a mass resignation from the Party, including the resignation of many young people.

WAQAVONOVONO:¬†“I feel that he is a disgusting choice, that is something that you do not do when you are fighting the coup culture the last thing that you want to actually do is go and bring a person whose leadership style is the reason all of this is such.”

Mick Beddoes also posted on Facebook about his resignation from SODELPA.
