Minister for Immigration, National Security and Defense Hon. Timoci Natuva said drone technology would help police combat marijuana cultivation.

Hon. Natuva said that the Fiji Police Force are now looking at new technology in combating marijuana cultivation.

To have drones helping them [Police] instead of having a team of 10 policemen searching vast areas.

Hon. Natuva stated that past surveillance included identifying hot spots and continuous police and community surveillance.  He added that with the progress of surveillance done by the Fiji Police, marijuana cultivators are moving to urban areas.

The Minister said the case of the drug farm in Tamavua-i-wai was not under the assumption of Police.

Hon. Salote Radrodro also said in Parliament that poverty is the driving force behind this alternative source of income.
