The ‘2016-2017 Appropriation Bill’ has been enacted by the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji last night.

After hours of debates on the bill in the committee of supply, the bill was read for the third time and passed.

The Minister of Economy Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum moved the motion for a third reading.

SAYED-KHAIYUM: “Madam Speaker, I move that the 2016-2017 Appropriation Bill of 2016, (Bill No. 35 of 2016) be read a third time a do pass.”

After voting on the motion, Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jiko Luveni said:

LUVENI: “A Bill for an Act to appropriate a sum of three billion, three hundred two million, two hundred twelve thousand, and seven hundred sixty-five dollars for the ordinary services of Government for the financial year ending 31st July 2017 (Bill No. 35 of 2016) enacted by the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji. Parliament has now passed the 2016-2017 Budget, I congratulate all members for their contribution to this important process.”

A total of 31 MP’s voted in support of the motion, 14 members voted no, and 5┬ádid not vote.

Parliament will continue at 10am this morning.
