The government has announced the extension of the feedback period for designs for the new national flag to February 29, 2016.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said many designs for the new flag had been submitted by members of the public.

Mr Bainimarama said the new flag would portray Fijian unity and togetherness, and the way forward for Fiji. Bainimarama also said that Fiji belongs to the Fijian people and so should the new flag.

“In March, we will choose five designs and every Fijian will cast their votes.

“The design with the most votes will be chosen as the design for our flag on September 7.”

It is expected the design with the most votes would be announced on 1 July to be the new national flag. The new flag will be raised on Constitution Day on September 7.

The new Fijian flag will be flown for the first time on September 7 during the celebration of the inaugural Constitution Day, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
