Cargo ship MV Suilven sank off the Suva Harbour this afternoon, with crew members rescued.

The vessel was enroute to Suva from Nabouwalu when it started listing (leaning or tilting).  The vessel soon started sinking, and was underwater within the hour.

Police confirmed crew members were rescued.

MV Suilven is a vehicle ferry built in 1974 and operated for 21 years in the UK. The vessel subsequently operated in New Zealand and later in Fiji (2004).

Fiji Times reported Ben Naidu of Venu Shipping confirming the ship was no longer a passenger ship and was now a cargo boat.  No passengers were on board when the incident occurred.
