Two reports of fires in the northern division whereby the first incident involved an empty home completely destroyed while the second involved a nearby home being partly destroyed.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro also confirmed that no injuries were sustained in both incidents.

NAISORO: “The incident occurred at Narayain Heights, Savusavu a little after 8am. A three bedroom house belonging to a 50-year-old was completely destroyed. The second home belonging to a 61-year-old businessman was partly destroyed.”

In the second incident a 49 -year-old laborer of Labasa lost his home in Vunika in a fire at 7.40pm last night. The fire is believed to have started from their prayer house located meters away from the main home.”

Ms Naisoro said the estimated cost of damage for the first house was $85,000 while the estimated cost for the second house was $15,000.

NAISORO: “Members of the public are once again being requested to be mindful and conduct thorough checks of potential fire hazards to safeguard their lives and properties.”

Meanwhile, a joint investigation is being carried out by the by Police and National Fire Authority.
